Darby Bybee is an American Emmy Award-winning Meteorologist currently working for KHBS-TV since joining the station in November of 2012. He currently serves as the Chief Meteorologist at the station, since the month of June, the year 2015. He can be seen at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 10 pm on 40/29 News, from Monday through Friday. Also, you can catch his forecasts at 9 pm on The Arkansas CW on weekdays.
Previously, he was in Little Rock, Arkansas, working for an NBC-affiliated TV station, KARK-TV. He stayed there for 1 year and 3 months, working as a weekend meteorologist. Prior to that, he was working for KLKN-TV, an ABC-affiliated TV station in Lincoln, Nebraska, for 3 years and a month, as a Photo Journalist, as well as a Meteorologist. There he forecasted the weather on weekends and did some weekday photojournalism. He acquired a wealth of weather knowledge, including extensive coverage of severe weather, while working at KLKN.
Bybee has also worked for WISH-TV, a CW-affiliated TV station as a Weather Intern, for 5 months. There he worked three days a week for six hours a day. Bybee was raised in the country near Freedom, Indiana, where he developed an interest in weather that led to his first internship with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis and a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from Ball State University. He and other students followed severe storms in the Midwest throughout the collegiate years. Bybee holds the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval.
He is a volunteer at Toys for Tots, a program conducted by the US Marine Corps Reserve that gives toys to youngsters whose parents are unable to provide them with gifts for Christmas. In the year 2010, he raised $ 1,000 for a Toys for a Tots fundraising event. He was able to get Walmart to match the funds, and they were able to purchase a number of items for local children during the Christmas season. Recently, he volunteered to sort toys for the local Toys for Tots program during the Christmas season.
