He started his journalism career in high school when he planned to launch a student-run news network. This was because he believed that students were not getting their news in a relatable way. He discovered it was not just students who desired a different perspective on current news as he grew older.

In May 2013, he was working as an intern with “Voice of America,” the largest and oldest U.S.-funded international broadcaster. He stayed there for 4 months, working as the editor, producer, and writer of a daily international news broadcast. He also worked as the producer, editor, creator, anchor, and writer of a pilot episode for a youth world news program.
Sechtin then went to intern at WMBF in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in May 2014 for 4 months. There, he was the creator of online content by publishing and writing web stories for the station’s News website. From December 2014 to May 2015, he again interned at FOX8 WGHP-TV, helping in live broadcasts by communicating with producers and running a teleprompter. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to work for CNN as the news intern on “HLN The Daily Share”.
Sechtin now began his first job on-air in January 2016 at WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee. There, he was holding the positions of News Anchor and News Reporter.
