Dale Hansen is an American retired sports anchor/reporter who is well-known for having worked for WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas. He joined WFAA in the year 1983 and retired in the year 2021.

Hansen recently served at WFAA-TV (ABC Affiliate) in Dallas, Texas as a weeknight sports anchor during the 10 p.m. newscast. On May 18, 2021, he made an announcement of his retirement, effective September 2, 2021. Hansen also hosted Dale Hansen’s Sports Special on Sundays at 10:35 p.m. In 1987, he was honored with the George Foster Peabody Award for Distinguished Journalism. That same year, Hansen won the DuPont-Columbia Award for his contribution to the investigation of SMU’s football program. As a result of this investigation, the NCAA prohibited SMU from fielding a football program in 1987.

He started his career as a radio disc jockey and operations manager in Newton, Iowa. He then got a job as a sports reporter at KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska. His first job in Dallas was with KDFW-TV (Channel 4).
He is the only local on-air broadcaster who has received the Radio Television Digital News Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received in 2019. He has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and on the Ellen Degeneres Show.
