Cynthia Newsome is an American Award-winning News Anchor/Reporter working for KSHB-TV since joining the station in January 1997. She anchors the 11 am newscasts on 41 Action News, from Monday to Friday.
Previously, she was working for KWTV-TV in Oklahoma City, as a Weekend Anchor for 1 decade and 3 years. Also, she was working for WKY Radio and KFOR-TV, as the News Reporter.
Newsome was honored into the Mid-America National Association of Television Arts and Sciences’ Silver Circle for Excellence in Broadcasting and Community Service in the year 2012. Her Lung Cancer story and Radon Awareness won First Place in the American Cancer Society High Plains Division’s Community Awareness media awards in the year 2008. She was also awarded Third Place for In-Depth Reporting by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in the year 2007 for her research of mold at Central High School.
Reporting the Oklahoma City bombing of the Murrah Federal Building was a highlight of her 30-year broadcasting career. The Oklahoma City Memorial and Museum in Oklahoma City has Newsome’s reports on the lives of bombing victims on display.
Newsome places a great value on community involvement. She created the Awesome Ambitions organization in the year 1997. It’s a high school college and career readiness program for females in the Kansas City Public School District in grades 8 through 12. Girls are inspired, educated, challenged, and encouraged to create and achieve positive goals for their future jobs, education, and health by volunteer business professional women who serve as coaches and mentors.
Newsome and her family attend a Baptist denomination, United Believers Community Church in south Kansas City. She cites fantastic music, great cuisine, and, most importantly, great people as her favorite aspects of Kansas City.

Cynthia Newsome Cancer
Newsome was diagnosed with breast cancer in the month of June 2011. She battled breast cancer and became a breast cancer survivor after 33 radiation sessions, 8 chemotherapy treatments, numerous prayers, a lumpectomy, and the loving care of her coworkers, husband, viewers, family, neighbors, and church members.
Breast cancer reappeared 7 years later, i.e. in February 2019. Newsome was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer that had spread throughout her body. She is undergoing immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatments in order to clear her body of cancer once more. She’s telling her tale on the radio in the hopes of inspiring and encouraging those who are fighting serious illnesses to keep fighting.
