Severance serves at WRAL-TV as an investigative reporter and documentary producer. Before joining WRAL, she worked for KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon as an investigative news reporter. She joined the station in October 2018 and left in November 2021. Throughout her career, she established and directed many investigative franchises. She joined KGW after working as a market investigative reporter at the CBS news station in Dallas, Texas. She covered a couple known as the “serial squatters” who defrauded hundreds of unsuspecting homeowners out of tens of thousands of dollars in at least two states while in Texas. Her inquiries resulted in the arrests and convictions of the pair.
She also broke numerous reports about the state’s fake license plate crisis and focused extensively on a national free-trial program with thousands of victims around the country. She also appeared on CBS This Morning to discuss her customer investigation into a Dallas company that was suing a couple over a Yelp review. Later, a federal law was passed making “non-disparagement clauses” in consumer contracts illegal.
Cristin worked as a Troubleshooter at the ABC station in San Diego, California, prior to joining Dallas. While in San Diego, she discovered that fire hydrants in one neighborhood were down, a problem that city authorities had known about for thirty years but had ignored. The problem was brought to light after a family’s home was devastated by a major wildfire and firefighters were unable to reach the hydrants.
Her inquiries resulted in authorities being held responsible and the replacement of fire hydrants. She’s also worked for the Ohio News Network as an anchor and reporter at WEWS in Cleveland, WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio, and WDTV in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
