Colton Shone Career
Shone has worked with Arizona’s Family for over a decade as an anchor and reporter. Currently, he co-anchors Good Morning Arizona alongside Tess Rafols from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays. In addition to that, he reports out in the community and covers live segments throughout the rest of the morning show.
He is thrilled to anchor and report in his hometown of Arizona, it is a dream come true for him. Shone joined Arizona’s Family in August 2022 where he works as a reporter and anchor. Prior to joining Arizona’s Family, he worked in Albuquerque, Mexico at KOB 4. While there, he served the station as a Morning News Anchor and Investigative Reporter. Before that, he worked for 13 News in Tucson, Arizona as a reporter and anchor for two years.
During his time working in Albuquerque, he worked for almost seven years co-anchoring the number one morning show. Shone is a member of the Navajo Nation. He covered the Navajo Nation’s fight against COVID-19. It was a 30-minute documentary called The People vs. The Pandemic. Shone has a passion for covering issues impacting Indian County. In addition to that, he covered extensively culture and language revitalization efforts and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis.
While in college, he got his first job in the business. He worked for 92.3 KTAR-FM as an anchor and reporter. After a shorter time, he made a jump to television news in Phoenix at CBS as a reporter. Shone worked there for a few years and later headed to Tucson to anchor the news.
As for his education, he joined the Arizona State University Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2007. After finishing his studies there, he obtained his Master’s and Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism in 2011. He was among the first cohort of students enrolled in the joint bachelor’s and master’s programs.
