Ward investigated the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny in late 2020, uncovering new evidence identifying Russian security services who followed Navalny for more than 30 trips over the course of three years.
Ward interviewed Navalny at an undisclosed location in Germany as part of this joint investigation with Bellingcat, even showing him photographs of the agents who tracked him and confronted a suspected member of the elite toxins team at his home outside Moscow.
She looked into Russian trolls operating in Ghana and Nigeria to incite racial tensions and social unrest in the United States last year. She also traveled to one of the operation’s headquarters in Ghana for this months-long investigation, where she interviewed one of the trolls and tracked down the person running the operation, a Ghanaian who lives in Russia.

Ward investigated Russia’s use of mercenaries in a two-part CNN series, ‘Putin’s Private Army,’ in 2019.
