Fitzgibbon serves at WCVB as a NewsCenter 5’s EyeOpener and Midday Meteorologist. She is a familiar face on Boston morning television, having spent a decade as the FOX25 Morning News Meteorologist at WFXT. Cindy was nominated several times before winning the regional Emmy award for outstanding achievement in weather broadcasting in 2017. She has also been recognized by the Associated Press for “Best Weathercast.” Cindy forecasted for NBC2 in Fort Myers, Florida, prior to joining WFXT in 2002, where she covered a tropical storm that hit Southwest Florida during the September 11th attacks in 2001. She worked as a morning meteorologist for WPTZ, a Hearst NBC affiliate in Burlington, Vermont, prior to joining NBC2.
Cindy began her meteorology career more than 20 years ago at KXMB-TV, a CBS affiliate in Bismarck, North Dakota. She graduated from Lyndon State College in Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Cindy belongs to two professional organizations: the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). The AMS Seal of Approval for Television has been bestowed upon her. Cindy has also appeared on ABC News as a guest contributor on World News Tonight and Good Morning America Weekend.
Cindy volunteers for organizations that promote science education, particularly for young girls, such as the Discovery Museum’s “Smart Gals” Program, the Jr. Sci-Tech Girl STEM Expo, and the Science Club for Girls, to which she contributes her time. Cindy has volunteered her time to help raise funds for local organizations fighting ALS and MS (multiple sclerosis), and she has become a Batten Disease ambassador. She makes regular “Weather Visits” to local schools, where she has educated thousands of students about the weather.
