Chris Tomer Career

Tomer anchors weekday mornings on Channel 2’s Daybreak from 5 a.m. – 9 a.m. and occasionally at 10 a.m. on FOX31’s Everyday show. Furthermore, he earned a B.S. in Meteorology with Honors from Valparaiso University, where he also played basketball. Tomer is a fully certified meteorologist who has earned both the CBM and the NWA Seals of Approval. Tomer is also a member of the NWA’s Television Seal evaluator panel. Chris has a specialty in Mountain Meteorology.

Tomer enjoys mountain climbing, trail running, and snow skiing when he is not working. Chris completed all 58 of Colorado’s 14ers, including the four major 14er Traverses, in 2009. Many of Chris’s adventures can be seen on Channel 2 under the title “Tomer’s Trails.” Tomer won an Emmy for his Tomer’s Trails stories in 2015. Tomer is a New York Times best-selling author. He co-wrote Sleeping on the Summits: Colorado Fourteener High Bivys in 2011. Sleeping on the Summits was a Colorado Bestseller in the summer of 2012, and it went on to win two major book awards in 2013, including the Colorado Book Award and the IPPY Award. Tomer has also published a peer-reviewed meteorology article in the Journal of Operational Meteorology of the National Weather Association.

Chris is a well-known public speaker. Over 100 visits to Front Range schools, keynote speaking roles at business luncheons, targeted presentations at private companies, private sector fire weather forecasting, private sector aviation forecasting, master of ceremonies at charity events, book signings, motivational speeches, performance tips for TV and media presentation, and educational workshops at Front Range REI are among his accomplishments. In his spare time, Tomer forecasts for teams climbing and skiing the world’s highest peaks all over the world.

He shared the information on his Facebook page stating” I didn’t get into a fight! Although I do enjoy MMA as a spectator. Took a fall while mountain biking yesterday. It was my own stupidity, and it was only my 4th ride of the year! Leanne took great care of me, and the professionals at St. Anthony in Lakewood were excellent. Few scrapes otherwise I’ll be just fine. I should look interesting back on TV next week ?”
