Chris Murray is an American sports anchor who is working at KRNV. He joined the KRNV sports net team in September 2018 after 16 years of covering local sports for the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Chris Murray Career
He began working as an intern at RGJ in 2002 and while he was still at the station, he held positions such as sports columnist, Nevada Wolf Pack beat writer, and assistant sports editor till 2018 when he left the station.
In addition, his work has received recognition widely across Northern Nevada and has been honored twenty-one times since 2011 by the Nevada Press Association inclusive of five first-place wins. Prior to being honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors six times as an individual, including one win, and an additional nine times in team categories. He has been a finalist for two Gannett quarterly awards.
Despite the fact that he was born in Southern California, he was brought up in Northern Nevada in 1987. He attended Douglas High School where he graduated in 2000 and later on he proceeded to the university. Additionally, he attended the University of Nevada, Reno where he earned a master’s degree in journalism in the year 2007.
In 2007, he was the Reynolds School of Journalism Graduate Student of the Year. Furthermore, in 2014, his master’s thesis “Barry Bonds and Lance Armstrong: Framing and race in the sports pages” was published. The book “Out of Bounds: Racism and the Black Athlete.” He co-authored “Gender’s role in the perception of credibility, persuasiveness, likability, and quality of sports column,” which was published in the Journal of Communication.
Furthermore, his articles have appeared in the Basketball Times, Lindy’s Magazine, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, and many other national publications. Prior to him being one of the only three journalists in the country to be voted in every Associated Press Top 25 poll in football and men’s basketball since 2012. Additionally, he has worked at The University of Nevada where he served as an adjunct professor.
