Chris Higgins Education
Higgins graduated from DeSmet Jesuit High School in the year 1988 and then attended Saint Louis University in the same year. He graduated from the university 4 years later with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Meteorology. During his stint there, he worked for KSLU, a student radio station, as a General Manager. He was also part of the Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society.

He began as a weekend meteorologist, before making his way up to the lead forecaster, appearing at 11 p.m. on weekdays. Over the course of his career, he has experienced almost all wild weather, ranging from tornadoes to drought to blizzards. He reported on the bitter cold winters in the late 1970s and the “Great Flood” in the year 1993. He also covered the Blizzard (1982), Drought (1988), and “Good Friday Tornado.”
Higgins started his TV career at FOX 2 – KTVI in the year 1990. At the time, he worked as an intern. Upon graduation from college in the year 1992, he went to work for KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri as a Chief Meteorologist for 2 years. While there, he covered Tornado Alley. From there, he now returned to FOX 2 News in St.Louis, MO.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Science recognized Higgins with 8 Emmys in October 2002 for weather reporting and forecasting. Higgins was the 1st meteorologist in St. Louis to ever earn the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society, in July 2006. He deployed to the deserts of the Middle East in 2008 summer of, for the purpose of supporting the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Higgins was recognized as the U.S. Air Force Weather Officer of the Year for the 2-time Reserve Component.
In the year 2013, Higgins sent out the 1st real-world Tornado Watch ever issued by the U.S. Air Force. At the time, he was working with the Storm Prediction Center backup crew. He got the promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the year 2019 and hopes to become a “Light Colonel.” Higgins is a strong supporter of the community – visits multiple local schools speaking to students about weather and serving your community, as well as the importance of staying in school.
