After MGM saw dailies footage of a scene from The Cabin in the Woods, Hemsworth was cast as Jed Eckert in the 2012 Red Dawn remake; he was cast as Thor two days later. The film was a box-office flop, grossing only $50 million against a production budget of $65 million, and received critical acclaim. Hemsworth appeared in the Netflix action-thriller Extraction, which reunited him with the Russo brothers, who also served as producers.
