Before finishing high school, he lived in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Syracuse, New York, Des Moines, Iowa, and Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Holy Name High School in Cleveland in 1986. Broussard, who was a standout football and basketball player at Holy Name, was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2016. He enrolled at Oberlin College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English in May 1990. On the Oberlin basketball team, he was a point guard.
