Chad Plein is an American multi-Emmy Award-winning sports anchor who is currently working at KY3. He joined the KY3 news team in 2007 and currently serves as a sports anchor.
While serving as a sports anchor, he has covered many Cardinals and Royals World Series games, Drury’s 2013 National Championship run, Missouri State in the NCAA Tournaments for women’s basketball and baseball, and the Chiefs in Miami for Super Bowl 54. Additionally, he broke the national story of Bobby Petrino taking the Missouri State University football job in January 2020.
St. Louis is his native home. He interned for the ABC News Nightline. In 1998, he was put right in the middle of a heated home run race between Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire by The Midwest Bureau. He served as a sports producer at KSDK (NBC) in St. Louis for about three years. Furthermore, he was able to get his start on-air in 2002, at KQTV (ABC).
His contract as the sports director expired in 2004, and that was when he relocated to Joplin where he worked at KOAM (CBS) serving as a sports director. Later on, after he had spent three tears in the Four States, he joined the KY3 news team and served as a weekend anchor. In addition, he has enjoyed traveling the Ozarks to meet and tell the stories of area residents for five years.
In 2012, he was hand-picked by Ned Reynolds who is a Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Legend, to fill in on the weeknight sports desk. Meanwhile, KY3 was launching Ozarks Sports Zone to give the station a fresh, new look at high school sports. Additionally, he won four Emmys as a best sports anchor in the Midwest beating a close friend and mentor in St. Louis three times.
He loves giving back to the community and ever since he came to Springfield, he has been named in 2012, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Man of the Year for his fundraising efforts and recognized in the Springfield Business Journal’s 40-under-40 in 2014. Prior, his wife assists GYN Cancers Alliance to raise money when she was recognized in 417 Magazine’s 10 Most Beautiful Women of 2015.
