Cary Allen Career
Allen serves as a meteorologist on NewsChannel 11 every morning. It is like Allen was destined to be a meteorologist. He was born shortly after Hurricane Beulah wreaked havoc on the South Texas coast, unleashing more than a hundred tornadoes. Overall, he has seen Texas weather from practically every nook and cranny. Fredericksburg, Kingsville, Kempner, El Paso, Lexington, Harlingen, San Angelo, Kerrville, and Lubbock, are among the cities where he has resided.
It all began when he was at his six years of age. His family and he were living in Kingsville, Texas at the time. A tornado blasted through the trailer park where we lived while he was in Kindergarten. Their trailer was intact, but his bedroom windows were shattered. The trailer of our next-door neighbor was lifted off the ground and dragged out into the street, landing upside down. Needless to say, that was a terrifying event for a six-year-old. For a long period after that, he was afraid of the weather. His fear of the weather evolved into curiosity as time went on.
In the eighth school, he had a science teacher who focused on the weather for 2 weeks. For 2 weeks, we were supposed to keep weather records. As it turned out, Allen kept weather data for the next 6 years from his own home in Kerrville, Texas.
In the year 1987, Allen started his broadcasting career as a sports reporter intern at KTXT-FM in Lubbock. He received his first break as a radio personality at KRLB-FM in June 1989. It started slowly and steadily, while he worked the overnight radio shift for nearly three years. In August 1992, Allen joined KZII-FM in Lubbock as a DJ on the Middays show.
