Evans serves at CBS as CBS News’ Los Angeles-based correspondent. He was named a Los Angeles-based correspondent for CBS News in February 2013, reporting across all of the network’s platforms. He joined CBS News with almost 20 years of journalistic experience, reporting big national and foreign reports. Evans gained media exposure for his February 2013 coverage of the police killing of the accused murderer and former LAPD cop Christopher Dorner. He was the only reporter on the scene when the authorities locked fire on Dorner during an intensive manhunt in Big Bear, California. Evans was a freelance reporter for CBS News most recently.
Previously, he served four years as a corporate reporter for CNN Newsource, contributing more than 20 live shots per day and acting as a revolving host of CNN’s “The Help Desk.” financial Q&A segment. He has covered the 2010 BP oil spill, the 2011 Japanese earthquake, and tsunami, Hurricane Irene, the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, and documented the “Great Recession” of New York.
Earlier, Evans reported and anchored WNYW/WWOR-TV in New York City. He was also a freelance reporter for CBS Newspath, reporting the California wildfires and standing in for “CBS MoneyWatch.”
Evans traveled to Los Angeles, California, for the first time in 2003 and spent the next four years contributing to KCBS/KCAL, covering the death and state funeral of President Ronald Reagan. He also announced E on the red carpet! News and hosted the 2004 Golden Globes Countdown Show. Evans started his journalism career in 1995 as a freelance reporter for CBS affiliate KGMB-TV in his hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii.
