Hughes serves as the 4, 5, 6, and 11 p.m. news anchor at WPLG Local 10 News. He went to the University of Missouri-Columbia where he attained his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Over the years, he has enclosed several stories including the 2021 Surfside condo collapse, the COVID-19 pandemic, the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017, and the worst high school shooting in American history in Parkland, Florida. He has also managed to interview several celebrities and politicians including the First Lady of Haiti. The interview with the First Lady of Haiti was weeks after her husband (the president), President Jovenel Moise was assassinated.

Hughes also went to Havana, Cuba to enclose the last two popes to visit Cuba, former President Obama’s historic visit, and Pope Francis’ historic trip to three cities in Cuba. He also enclosed the official flag-raising ceremony and opening from the grounds of the new American Embassy in Havana. He also spent eleven days in Cuba reporting on the death of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
Hughes has also won several awards and honors since he began his TV career. For instance, he was named Miami’s Best TV News Anchor in 2011 by Miami New Times after reporting on Haiti’s earthquake. Prior to joining WPLG Local 10 News, he worked at stations in Philadelphia, Dallas, and Atlanta where he served as a reporter and anchor. He also worked as a reporter at stations in Columbia, Lexington, Indiana, and Evansville.
Hughes is very active when it comes to helping his community and is a member of several non-profit organizations including the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project Mentor. He is also a member and vice-president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami as well as Angels for Humanity. In addition to that, he is also an active member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
