When the school guidance counselor asked him what he was going to do for the rest of his life, luckily the counselor opened McClure’s eyes so that he could pursue meteorology. Prior to concentrating on his career, he was a walk-on kicker for N.C. State football team for a couple of years. He got his internship at WRAL-TV in Raleigh. McClure had his first career job in Raleigh, NC at WNCN-TV prior to working with WCTI-TV in New Bern, NC Central. He later joined the WTVM-TV team in Columbus, GA to work with. While there, he forecasted Hurricanes, Frances, Jeanne, and Ivan.
He was hired by Bay News 9 after the super-active 2005 hurricane season. His report on educating students about weather landed him to win the Georgia State Educators media award. In addition, his coverage of Hurricane Ivan helped him to receive an Associated Press award Throughout his career, he has been numerous Associated Press Awards and also multiple Emmy awards. He reported Best Weathercast of the severe weather report and won an Emmy.
McClure likes volunteering to talk to students about the science of meteorology and talking to civic groups and businesses. He has also helped local businesses maneuver through science and weather questions. During his leisure time, he likes biking, snow-skiing, or snapping photographs.
