Hackney serves as an anchor, producer, and science reporter at KPIX5. Since starting his career, he has received several awards including 18 Emmy awards five of them being awarded to her in 2013. In addition to that, he also received two National Associated Press Mark Twain awards in 2013 and the Peabody award. Furthermore, he also several appearances as a co-host on Good Morning America alongside Joan Lunden and Charlie Gibson.
Brian also co-hosted Newton’s Apple, a family science program on PBS. He often serves as the host of forums at the Commonwealth Club. He previously worked at SAG-AFTRA where he served as the vice president of Broadcast (San Fransisco) from August 2015 to July 2017 in Northern California. Prior to that, he worked at KRON-TV where he served as a news anchor and meteorologist from 1996 to 2005.
Hackney previously worked at PBS Newton’s Apple where he served as the co-host of the Emmy Award-winning national program in St.Paul, MN from 1997 to 2001. From 1990 to 1996, he worked at KGO-TV where he served as a meteorologist/Science Editor 1990 to 1996. Hackney went to California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo in 1980 and earned his two degrees in Physics and Electronic Engineering in 1986.
