Brent Cameron Profile
Brent Cameron is an American journalist working for WSVN, 7NEWS serving as a weekend evening meteorologist. He joined WSVN in 1999.
Brent Cameron Career
Cameron serves as a weekend evening meteorologist forecasting on weekend evenings during 7 NEWS at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, 10:00 pm, and 11:00 pm. When you need him the most, he keeps a close eye on both the sky and the beach conditions. When storms threaten, he’ll calmly guide you through the storm and tell you how and when to prepare. Brent is also concerned about marine weather because many south Floridians enjoy boating. Cruise passengers departing from the Ports of Miami or Everglades can also consult Brent’s forecast for the most up-to-date tide information and boating forecast. Brent began working at WSVN in the summer of 1999, making him a ten-year veteran of the 7 Weather Center! He vividly recalls preparing for the move to Miami.
Nothing could be further from the truth, of course. Brent quickly realized how many local factors combine to produce challenging weather conditions in south Florida. Brent’s forecasting experience ranges from the mountains to the ocean, with plenty of volatile flatland in between. His meteorological career began in western Montana. In 1994, he was hired as the primary weather anchor for KPAX-TV in Missoula. After a year, he moved on to WPTA-TV in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, near his hometown of Wabash. Brent spent five years there tracking tornadoes and monitoring wild weather extremes in the Midwest.
Then, just before the new millennium, an opportunity to relocate south arose, and Miami became home. Brent returned to Indiana in 2003 to join the largest weather team in the country, WTHR in Indianapolis. It had a separate studio with a 24-hour weather station called “SkyTrak.” Thunderstorms and snowstorms were tracked continuously (on-air) for hours from Illinois to Ohio. Brent also missed the warmth and sunshine of Florida after several snow events and returned to WSVN as a weekend evening meteorologist. Brent’s weather career highlights include covering the 2004 “Indy 500” Tornado Outbreak and Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
Both events had an impact on him because they reinforced his respect for what nature is capable of. Brent considers it all worthwhile because he is able to assist people during both major events and on a daily basis. He occasionally delivers that message in south Florida classrooms. Brent has also previously hosted the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon and has volunteered for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He is also an animal lover who has assisted the Humane Society with various events.
Brent earned a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Ball State University. Cameron was also a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity in college and was elected Student Body President in 1990-1991. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree. He also went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. Brent currently belongs to the National Weather Association.
