Before making it to his journalism career, his journey has been an unconventional one. During his time in college, a year and a half after joining, he ran out of money and stepped out. By good luck, he got a job opportunity and joined Marine Corps. For four consecutive years after joining Marine Corps, he traveled the globe.

While working with Marine Corps, he served as a Marine broadcaster. He was primarily stationed in Iwakuni, Japan. From there, he was deployed to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and Australia. Four years after joining Marine Corps, he went back to college and in 2014, he graduated.

After graduation, he interned with the Minnesota Twins radio department. From there, he joined KWWL-TV out of Waterloo, Iowa where he served as a reporter. For three years and a half there, he was in charge of the Dubuque bureau. While there, he covered everything and anything the community holds.

Hanson has worked as a general news guy, he covered sports for his department. He got an opportunity to cover the UNI Panthers to Oklahoma City and Seattle in the NCAA tournament and also the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Pinstripe Bowl and Rose Bowl. In addition, he again had an opportunity to cover local sports during the fall in Dubuque including football every Friday night.
