Smith serves as the morning meteorologist at WHNT News based in Huntsville, Alabama. Prior to joining WHNT, he worked at WSAV-TV where he served as the chief meteorologist from July 2003 to July 2007 at 6 pm and 11 pm from Monday through Friday. From 2001 to 2003, he worked at WIAT-TV where he served as a meteorologist. In 1992 Smith joined East Carolina University where he studied Communications and Electronic News till 1996.
Smith started his TV career working at WNCT-TV based in Greenville, NC where he served as a meteorologist and weathercaster for about five years. He then joined Mississippi State University where he attained his degree in broadcast meteorology while working at WNCT.
Smith has also enclosed several extreme weather events including Hurricane Floyd. In addition to that, he has also received several awards including the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award. He is also a qualified meteorologist and is also approved by the American Meteorological Society and The National Weather Association.
