Barbara Mandrell is an American actress, author, and former country music singer. She began her acting career by making appearances on several TV shows including American Bandstand, The Tonight Show, and Bob Hope entertainment specials.
Barbara Mandrell Music Career
Mandrell began her singing career in 1960 when she was only eleven years old in Las Vegas, Nevada. She began her career as a steel guitar player and was also assisted by Joe Maphis. During the summers when she was not in school, she would go back to Las Vegas to perform. She toured the country alongside Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash and also performed steel guitar for Red Foley, Tex Ritter, and Little Jimmy Dickens. At the age of 14, she formed the Mandrell Family Band alongside her family with Mandrell Barbara on steel guitar. Her mother, Mary played the Piano while her father, Irby led vocals as well as two outside musicians including Ken Dudney, a drummer.

Mandrell released her very first single called “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long (To Stop Now)” which made it to the 1969 America’s Billboard country songs chart. She then released her album named, Treat Him Right in 1971 which featured covers of songs by Joe South, Ivory Joe Hunter, and others. She then joined ABC–Dot a recording contract in 1975 and worked alongside Tom Collins. That same year, she released her single called “Standing Room Only” which was very successful.
In 1994, she released two albums that made appearances on different TV Networks including TNN. She then retired in 1997 from recording, touring, and performing. She also publicized the reason behind her retirement was to spend more time with family and her acting career.

Mandrell began her acting career by making appearances on several TV shows including American Bandstand, The Tonight Show, and Bob Hope entertainment specials. In December 1979, she made an appearance in an episode of The Rockford Files and also co-hosted the 1979 Academy of Country Music Awards.
NBC Network gave Mandrell several offers including hosting her own syndicated show which she turned down. She later on agreed to host the show after Marty Krofft convinced her to do so. The show was called Barbara Mandrell & the Mandrell Sisters and was hosted by Barbara alongside her two sisters, Louise and Irlene.

Mandrell, later on, appeared in a military engagement in 1987 alongside Bob Hope and Brooke Shields. Unfortunately, the driver of the other vehicle lost his life while Mandrell’s children suffered minor injuries.
