Before joining CNN, she worked for WXIA-TV in Atlanta, Georgia as a weekend meteorologist for 2 years and 8 months (June 2012 – January 2015). Before that, she served at WKRN-TV in Nashville, Tennessee as a weekend evening meteorologist for one and a half years (January 2011 – June 2012).

Chinchar worked for WTVC-TV – NewsChannel9 in Chattanooga, Tennessee as a weekend evening meteorologist for 2 years and 11 months (March 2008 – January 2011). Throughout her career, she has reported on everything from flooding events to blizzards to wildfires to hurricanes. In the year 2019, she earned an Emmy Award nomination for her coverage of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

In April 2011, Chinchar reported on the Super Tornado Outbreak – more than 350 tornadoes in the Southeastern United States in just 4 days, with more than 200 tornadoes of those on April 27th alone. Chinchar has also covered climate change stories, as well as earthquakes, volcanoes, and other natural disasters.

Chinchar is a member (affiliate) of the National Weather Association (NWA), the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, the International Association of Broadcast Meteorology, and the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
