During her time at WPTA in Fort Wayne, Alexis received a National Murrow Award and an Emmy for her work on an investigation into the death of a factory worker, which resulted in an overhaul of Indiana’s workers’ compensation laws – the first changes to the statute in more than 30 years.
Rivas began her journalism career as an MMJ at FOX28 in South Bend, Indiana, and eventually as a weekend anchor. Alexis began her professional career as an account executive at a public relations firm in Miami, booking clients’ appearances on local, national, and cable news networks.
This is in addition to carrying out interviews in local and national newspapers, before changing careers at the age of 25, returning to school, and pursuing a career in journalism. Rivas earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and art history from the University of Miami, as well as a master’s degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
