Alexis Hughes is an American Sports Anchor/Reporter currently working for WDAM-TV since joining the station in June 2018. She currently reports and anchors sports on WDAM 7 News.
Hughes is pleased to be joining the WDAM sports team and is looking forward to sharing her love of sports with the Pine Belt. Previously she was in Richmond, Virginia, working part-time for WWBT/NBC12 Raycom Media as a News Specialist, for 7 months. Prior to that, she was the General Assignment News Intern for an ABC-affiliated TV station in Washington D.C., Metropolitan Area, WJLA-TV.
Hughes knew she wanted to be a sports reporter since she was a child. Her interest in sports journalism led her to study Broadcast Journalism at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She began her career in television at WJLA-TV and at WWBT/NBC12, WDAM’S sister station.
Hughes assisted with coverage of Redskins training camp, the 2017 Congressional baseball shooting, VCU Basketball, NASCAR, and more throughout her internships.
The Washington Capitals and the New Orleans Saints are two of Hughes’ favorite teams.
She enjoys visiting Gulf Shores, Alabama, spending time with friends and family, attending concerts, and exploring new restaurants in her spare time. She appreciates the fact that she is only a short drive from her family in New Orleans.
