Marquardt serves at CNN as a Senior National Security Correspondent based in the network’s Washington bureau. This is her second stint at the network. Her first stint was from November 2007 to January 2009, when he worked as a news reporter. After his first stint, he went to work for ABC News in Beirut, Moscow, London, and Jerusalem, as a Foreign Correspondent for nearly 8 years (June 2009 – April 2017). Before Marquardt joined CNN in his first stint, he served at Channel One News in Washington as a full-time news anchor for 1 year and 2 months (June 2006 – July 2007). Before that, he worked for NBC News in New York for 10 months.

Since Marquardt rejoined CNN in the 2nd stint, he has been assisting in leading both international and domestic breaking news coverage on multiple stories, such as the intelligence community; the Black Lives Matter protests in Washington; election security; the capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021; and the national security issues around coronavirus.
At ABC News, Marquardt was on the front lines of the wars and uprisings in the Middle East as well as covering the migrant and refugee crisis. He was one of the 1st correspondents in Cairo as there was an explosion of revolution. He traveled to Syria multiple times to cover the war from both the rebel and regime sides. Marquardt provided the live-on-scene report from Gaza during the wars with Israel in 2014 and 2012 and made a trip to Ukraine as Russia’s military invaded.
Prior to Marquardt’s international posts, he embedded with CNN as a reporter during the presidential election of the year 2008. He has traveled with and reported on several candidates such as then-Senators Clinton and Barrack Obama, and Governors Huckabee and Romney.
Marquardt holds an Emmy Award, a Gracie award, and an Edward R. Murrow, notably for an undercover investigation of underage sex trafficking in the Philippines. He began his journalism career at NBC Page. Marquardt is a proud grad of Georgetown University. He graduated from the university in the year 2004 with a degree in Science, Technology, and International Affairs.
