Winfield is a Meteorologist at Bay News 9 as the leader of Bay News 9’s team of meteorologists. In September 1997, Bay News 9 was launched and he was obliged to bring a brand new way of looking at Florida’s weather with Weather on the Nines in the Tampa Bay area. Today it brings dependable and accurate weather information to Bay Area residents.
His career has taken him to some of America’s most volatile weather spots and to many places across the country. He began his career at KJRH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tulsa, Okla a Tornado Alley. Later he traveled to Richmond, Va to work with WTVR-TV as their forecaster. Winfield did not stop there, he headed to the rainy Pacific Northwest and worked at Seattle’s KSTW-TV.
Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Penn State University, as well as a master’s from the University of Oklahoma, Alan began his television career in Tornado Alley, at KJRH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tulsa, Okla.
He loves storm chasing and camping since his days spent in the Midwest. The American Meteorological Society honored him with a Seal of Approval. He is likes being involved in his community and is an active church member. Winfield chose to take a position in his church in April 2006 but during the hurricane and tropical storm reporting, he will still be available to Bay News 9.
