Abby Ham Career
Ham serves at WBIR as the morning anchor on 10News Today and Mornings with Fox43. She is a proud journalism graduate of the University of Arizona. Ham began her career as an anchor and producer of WTAP’s 5:00 show in Parkersburg, West Virginia/Marietta, Ohio. She was elevated to evening anchor and producer at 11:00 p.m. WTAP was the ideal setting for her to start her journalism career. She learned how to shoot and edit videos, report, anchor, and produce while she was there.
Ham was also heavily active in the 2004 presidential race between Senator John Kerry and former President George W. Bush. She even got to interview Democratic Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards at the time. She won multiple Associated Press honors for anchoring and reporting during her time there. Ham worked for WTAP for over two years before moving to Knoxville to work as a weekend anchor/reporter for WBIR. She was promoted to morning anchor on 10News Today after a few months.
Ham covered a variety of stories, including the McClung Warehouses fire. A regional Emmy nomination was made for the coverage. She had the chance to lead the morning newscast in Cleveland, Ohio in 2007. While she was sad to go, she was looking forward to her new job at WKYC. She covered the 2008 presidential election in Cleveland, notably the Cleveland debate between Democratic presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. She also volunteered with non-profits such as the JDRF, Ronald McDonald House, and Dress for Success. It was time to return home in 2009. She was looking forward to seeing her family and seeing this wonderful place again. WBIR was gracious enough to return her old position to her. For 10News Today, she sits at the anchor desk.
Her responsibilities as an anchor have grown a little. In 2010, we launched a 4:30 a.m. broadcast, and in 2011, we collaborated with Fox 43 to establish Mornings with Fox 43, a two-hour morning show that airs from 7-9 a.m. She also produces Your Stories, a weekly feature report on East Tennessee’s fascinating people and places. Every year, she is an active participant in Buddy’s Race Against Cancer, which benefits the Thompson Cancer Survival Center, and she enjoys volunteering for other local charities.
