Abby Dyer is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist working at KY3. She joined the KY3 First Alert Weather team in July 2011. She can be seen at 1 am-noon, 4 pm, and 5 pm. In addition, she also serves as a meteorologist on KSPR.
Abby Dyer Career
She attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where she graduated proudly with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a Bachelor of Journalism. Additionally, while she resided in Columbia, she served as a weathercaster while working at KOMU-TV. Even at a young age, she enjoyed watching the local news for weather forecasts as she was interested in weather and science.
Highland, Illinois is her native home and together with her family they would visit the Ozarks or do fishing trips and family visits and is so happy to work in the beautiful Ozarks, where the weather is always exciting.
Prior, she received the prestigious Hollings Scholarship through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration while in college. Additionally, she interned at the National Weather Service in Hawaii and while she was there, she studied the effects of volcanic aerosols and their movement around the islands in various wind patterns.
For a period of two years, she covered the weekend evening newscasts before she was promoted to cover the noon and 5 pm shows Monday through Friday. Additionally, she joined the ABC affiliate in 2017 and served on the midday newscasts. Currently, she can be seen on both KSPR and KY3. Prior, she also fills in on the late evening news and on Ozarks Today.
Furthermore, she is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and a member of the American Meteorological Society. Dyer was awarded the Mid-America Emmy for “Best Weather Anchor” in 2019. the Missouri Broadcaster’s Association awarded her the “Best Weathercast” in 2017 and for her virtual reality graphics in 2019, the Kansas City press club awarded her with the Gold and Silver awards. Additionally, in the 2017 class, she was named a “40 under 40” by The Springfield Business Journal.
