Maher’s vast media work includes reports on the war on terror; the defeat of the Taliban in Afghanistan; the 2002 hotel bombing in Kenya; the Enron scandal; the Kosovo crisis; and numerous critical national headlines such as wildfires and hurricanes.
Prior to joining “48 Hours” Maher was a Dallas-based CBS News correspondent from 1999 to 2002, focusing mainly on “CBS Evening News.” Previously, Maher was the reporter for CBS Newspath, the network’s 24-hour news program for CBS stations and broadcasters around the globe. Though based in Chicago, Maher has reported big stories across the United States, including the prosecution of President Clinton.
In 1997 she joined CBS Newspath. Earlier in her career, Maher was the morning anchor and correspondent for WJRT-TV Flint, Mich. (1995-1997) reporting the Oklahoma City bombing and the Decker farm raid. Maher was a correspondent for WJBK-TV Detroit and an interviewer and reporter for WWJ-AM, the CBS-owned Detroit radio station (1992-1995).
She started her television career at WLUW-FM Chicago as a morning news anchor (1991-1992). Maher’s reporting on “48 Hours”: The Chicago War was honored with a Salute of Excellence Award by the National Black Journalism Association. Her article on foreign adoption, “48 Hours”: Missing Children, received the 2010 Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio, Television & Internet News Association (RTNDA). Maher’s story was part of CBS News’ coverage of the Newtown School shooting that won Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Silver Baton 2014.
