Saladna serves at WCVB as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor. She has been nominated for numerous New England Emmy Awards for her anchoring and reporting during her time at WCVB. Mary was recently honored with an Emmy Award for her coverage of the devastating Merrimack Valley gas explosions. Mary also won two Emmy Awards in 2017, one for Continuous Coverage and the other for her coverage of the “Taunton Rampage” story, which helped WCVB win the coveted Best Newscast award. She was nominated three times for Emmy Awards for Individual Achievement for her work as an anchor, and she won the award in 2001.
Mary received six Emmy nominations from the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for her reporting and anchoring while at WGAL. She has also won a number of Associated Press awards. Mary was the co-anchor of WGAL-5:30 TV’s p.m. and 11 p.m. weekday newscasts before joining Channel 5 in September 1999. Hearst Television is the owner of both WGAL and WCVB.
Mary worked as a promotional producer at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh; anchor/reporter at WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, Md.; anchor/reporter at WJAC-TV in Johnstown, Penn.; and creator, executive producer, and host of “Pulse,” an award-winning health care issues magazine that was nominated for a national Emmy, regional Emmy, Iris Award, and winner of three Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters awards.
Mary supports the Ellie Fund, the Jeff Coombs Foundation, ALS One, Home Base – a Red Sox Foundation, Massachusetts General Hospital Program, the American Heart Association, and the Mass 9/11 Fund through her volunteer work. Mary has volunteered for the Children’s Miracle Network, United Cerebral Palsy, Easter Seals, Special Olympics, MADD/SADD, and children’s safety organizations in the past. She also campaigns for voter registration, CPR training, organ donation, and AIDS awareness.
