Born and raised in Loudonville, Ohio, Mowry attended Valparaiso University in Indiana to pursue his dream and graduated Cum Laude. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a Minor in Mathematics. He is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society.
Larry Mowry Career
Mowry is a meteorologist who covers the weather for ABC 7 News at 4 and 6 PM weekday newscasts as well as the 7 PM newscast on WCIU Channel 26. He first worked as an ABC 7 meteorologist in 2004. Mowry is regarded as one of the best severe weather broadcast meteorologists in the country, having been on the air for countless tornado warnings and showing many tornadoes live on the air during his time in Dallas.
He joined ABC 7 from KTVT, the CBS station in Dallas, Texas where he served as the Chief Meteorologist for the station’s 5, 6, and 10 PM weekday newscasts. In 2008, he joined KTVT. From 2005 to 2008, Mowry served as the Morning Meteorologist at WKMG the CBS station in Orlando, Florida. Before that, he was ABC 7’s Saturday morning meteorologist in 2004.
In 2017, he was honored with an Emmy Award for “Outstanding On-Camera Talent - Weather Anchor” by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Chicago/Midwest Chapter. He has garnered ten Lonestar Emmy Awards including five for Best Weathercaster in the state of Texas during his career.
