Judy Hsu Education
Her roots in the Windy City take her back to elementary school. Hsu’s family immigrated to Chicago from Taiwan when she was 11 years old. From living in Chicago’s Chinatown to Rogers Park to Morton Grove. She attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign where she received her B.A. in Broadcast Journalism, and the day after graduation she landed an on-air reporting job at the campus radio station, WPGU-FM. After the internship, she landed her first TV job with WCIA in Champaign.

Hsu anchors the top-rated 4 PM and the 6 PM News for ABC7 Eyewitness News. Previously she worked for 15 years as the station’s morning co-anchor. She also hosts a long-format interview segment that airs on Sunday mornings called “Newsviews”, offering unique perspectives from Chicago area newsmakers as they address national and local topics pertinent to our community. Additionally, she serves as the primary host of ABC7’s signature half-hour program Asian Influences, which highlights extraordinary contributions by Chicagoans of Asian Pacific American descent, while examining issues affecting the community.
In 2001, Hsu was happy to return to her hometown to join ABC 7 as the weekday anchor of the station’s morning 4:30-7 AM block of news programming. For 15 years, she helped lead the morning show before her promotion to the afternoon and early evening.
During Hsu’s tenure at ABC 7, she has been a part of just about every major story in Chicago either anchoring from the news desk or reporting in the neighborhoods. Additionally, she reported live from the White House bringing ABC7 viewers extensive coverage of her one-on-one interview with President Barack Obama just prior to leaving the Oval Office. While a rookie reporter in California, Hsu was one of the youngest reporters to fly with the Blue Angels and she covered the O.J. Simpson verdict live from the L.A. courthouse.
Prior to joining ABC 7, she anchored the 4 PM weekday newscast at KFMB-TV in San Diego, CA. She also served as KFMB’s weekend anchor and general assignment reporter before. Ever since coming back to Chicago, she has worked with many charities throughout the region highlighting issues important to local families.
