Jacob Durham Career
Durham serves at KPLC forecasting weather at KPLC 7News every weekend. When Durham was a child, he was at the beach with his family and experienced his first taste of severe weather. That was the day he became interested in the weather. Jacob used to spend his afternoons watching Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich of WCNC, as well as Chief Meteorologist Eric Thomas of WBTV, to learn more about the weather.
In May 2019, Durham graduated with a minor in Math and a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. There, he was a member of the UNC Charlotte weather team, and he did the UNC Charlotte news’ weekly broadcasts. Also, he was a UNC Charlotte STORM meteorology club member, which took part in community events on campus.
Durham got the chance to intern with Meteorologist Leigh Brock at WBTV throughout his college career. The meteorologist helped demonstrate the various tasks a meteorologist must perform during a workday. He had the privilege of practicing with the green screen and viewing newscasts, as well as creating several shows to assist portray the weather narrative appropriately. Interning at the station he grew up watching was his dream come true.
His fascination with the weather grew over the harsh weather and winter storms in North Carolina. Therefore, he is looking forward to staying in the south and relocating to Southwest Louisiana, where he will be able to keep the public informed about both severe tropical and weather.
During his leisure, he enjoys spending time with loved ones (friends and family), as well as fishing and golfing. Also, he loves exploring Southwest Louisiana and learning about the history and culture of the area.
