Donna Pitman is an American Emmy Award-winning News Anchor/Reporter currently working for KMBC-TV/KCWE-TV since joining the station in June 2001. She currently reports the 5 and 6 pm newscasts on KMBC 9 News. Also, she co-anchors the “FirstNews” program.
Previously, she was in Peoria, Illinois, working for a TBD-owned-and-operated television station, WHOI-TV. She stayed there for 2 years and 3 months, holding the positions of News Anchor/Reporter, anchoring and reporting the weekend evening newscasts.
Pitman is a proud alumnus of the University of Missouri, where she earned a Bachelor of Journalism, as well as a minor in Spanish in 1997.
Pitman started her career in public radio at KBIA in Columbia, Missouri. She then left KBIA to work for KOMU-TV, where she was a “one-woman” band that shot, announced, composed, and edited her stories. Later on, she now moved to Peoria, Illinois, to work for WHOI-TV.
The Kansas City Press Club has honored Pitman for her efforts. She and photojournalist Tim Twyman recently won a Silver Award for a story on a Vietnam Veteran whose recovery helped hundreds of other war victims. For the same piece, they were also nominated for an Emmy.
She says that she is fortunate to have this profession since every day she meets new and interesting people, and she picks up a new skill.
